Cluj Botanical Garden

              The Cluj-Napoca Botanical Garden, officially Alexandru Borza Cluj-Napoca University Botanic Garden (Romanian: Grădina Botanică Alexandru Borza a Universităţii Cluj-Napoca), is a botanical garden located in the south part of Cluj-Napoca, Romania. It was founded in 1872 by Brassai Samuel. Its director in 1905 was Aladár Richter, than Páter Béla, Győrffy István and than overtaken 1920 by the local university, and by Alexandru Borza.

The Japanese Garden

In addition to its role as a tourist destination, the garden also serves as a teaching and research center as part of the Babeș-Bolyai University. In 2010, the Romanian Ministry of Culture and National Patrimony categorized it as a historical monument.

The garden is over 14 hectares in area, with over 10,000 plants from throughout the world. It is divided into ornamental, phytogeographic (geobotanical), systematic (taxonomical), economic, and medicinal sections. Romanianflora and vegetation are represented by plants from the Transylvanian plains, the Carpathian Mountains, Banat, etc.

Among the Botanical Garden's interesting attractions are the Japanese Garden (a garden in Japanese style, with a brook and a Japanese-style house), the Roman Garden with archeological remains from the Roman colony ofNapoca, among them a statue of Ceres, goddess of cereals and bread, alongside cultivated plants that dominate contemporary Romanian agriculture. Jablonovszki Elemér ^[1] was its head gardener for 45 years.

Sovata

         SOVATA

               Sovata is part of the Székely Land region of the historical Transylvania province. The first data about Sovata are from 1578. By 1583 it was already a village.

For 42 years, from 1876 until 1918, the village belonged to the Maros-Torda County of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire.

Due to its salty lakes and warm water it became an increasingly popular health resort during the end of the 19th and the 20th century. It gained the status of town in 1952.

The geological events in 1875 gave birth to the Bear Lake, which is unique in Europe, its water being helio-thermal and salty, with well-known therapeutic effects (for chronic gynecological symptoms, severe rheumatic pains, peripheral nervous system and post-accidental motor diseases).

There are four more salty lakes: Nut Lake, Black Lake, Red Lake and Green Lake. In the interwar period, Sovata became one of the most fashionable spas in the country, visited several times even by the Romanian Royal Family.

Bigar Waterfall

                     


                          Bigar Waterfall is one of the most famous and beautiful waterfalls in the world. It can be found in Oravita, a city in Caras Severin county and it attracts numerous tourists thanks to its unique appearance. It looks like a huge mass of falling water dressing an enormous rock covered by moss. 
The rocky base of the waterfall is dominated by green vegetation and it has a wider base giving it a pretty original and appealing appearance. The most beautiful and magical part of this waterfall is the water which runs over the green rock casting beautiful clear glows resembling very much to an oversized diamond.
Here you can also explore the 200 meters river that forms the waterfall and follow its course upwards where its spring is. There is also a small cave that waits to be discovered, a tall hole carved into the hard rock. To enter it you must cross the icy river bare foot and climb a latter made of rope and sticks that looks extremely fragile. It all seems like a wonderful adventure, one that nicely contributes to the thrill and joy of discovering such beautiful natural attractions.

The new state, officially named Romania since 1866, gained independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1877. At the end of World War I, Transylvania, Bukovina and Bessarabia united with the sovereign Kingdom of Romania. During World War II, Romania was an ally of Nazi Germany against the Soviet Union, fighting side by side with the Wehrmacht until 1944, then it joined the Allied powers after being occupied by the Red Army forces. After the war, Romania became a socialist republic and member of the Warsaw Pact. After the 1989 Revolution, Romania began a transition back towards democracy and a capitalist market economy.

Following rapid economic growth in the 2000s, Romania has an economy predominantly based on services, and is a producer and net exporter of machines and electric energy, featuring companies like Automobile Daciaand OMV Petrom. It has been a member of NATO since 2004, and part of the European Union since 2007. Around 90% of the population identify themselves as Eastern Orthodox Christians, and are native speakers ofRomanian, a Romance language. With a rich cultural history, Romania has been the home of influential artists, musicians, inventors and sportspeople, and features a variety of tourist attractions.
